The Mercedes Benz Air Suspension System

The air suspension system of the Mercedes-Benz brand of vehicles is a very special feature of the Mercedes-Benz brand, it is something that makes a great difference and something that has made Mercedes-Benz stand out from other brands of vehicle over the years and to this day.

Solenoids – form a part of electronically controlled systems that increase/decrease the air within each air bag.

Electronic Control Module – software used to control electronic air suspension systems.  The modules receive data from monitors about the vehicle which notice things like pressure, vehicle height, laden weight and perhaps more.  In reliance on the noticed data switches the compressor on and off as needed.

Uneven Wear of Tyres – a deteriorating strut is less able to support a vehicle’s weight, so an extra force of weight pushes the vehicle’s wheels and tyres harder to the ground to cause uneven tyre wear as well as damage to the wheel.  If you notice a pattern of uneven tyre wearing, check for damage to the particular wheel and note that it is a sign indicating problems with your vehicle’s suspension system – something needs to be replaced.

Leaking Lines – cracks within the lines which supply compressed air to air struts will lead to air leaks and a flawed air suspension system.

Faulty Level Sensor – when level sensors fail, the air suspension control until will be unable to recognise the measure the vehicle’s height, leading to warnings from the Mercedes-Benz dashboard about air suspension failures even if the vehicle’s height is fine and the vehicle is riding fine.

Diving, Rolling or Squatting – if your vehicle dives (leans forward) when you brake, rolls to a side (leans from side to side) when you take corners or squats (leans backwards) when you accelerate, it indicates the possibility of a problem with your vehicle’s strut and shock absorber items.
