Change begins as an idea that is shared, discussed, and understood, but there are examples of people who have been killed for sharing their ideas.

There’s a famous story about a man who was crucified for sharing his ideas.

An idea for discussion during January of any year, could mean that by the following January a solution has been found, and that five years after being introduced as an idea, that a problem is being resolved if it hasn’t been already.

So where there’s a real problem, where do you stand in the situation for resolving it?

Who is the BOSS?

It's often a good question to ask if you'll be starting a new job and joining a new workforce, because there may be things that you really need to know about your boss, like how many sugars they take, whether they prefer tea or coffee, or hot chocolate, and of course, which cup is theirs. The boss is the one person that you need to remain on the right side of, and you won’t be alone in that circumstance either, quite typically there's a lot of acting and scurrying around and treachery, all for the sake of the boss who all employees feel must be pleased.

Mustn’t it be great being a boss? All these people who will do just about anything, without being asked, just to keep you smiling. Just to keep YOU smiling! Just so they might keep their jobs. The equations may amaze you if you stare at them for long enough.

In an environment where individuals are given power and where they appreciate the impacts that they are capable of having in the lives of those that are subjects of their power, some people become quite monstrous and cruel, and there are cultures which teach such individuals that they must behave in such ways, to conceal any vulnerabilities that they may have, and to avoid the mockery of their power, so a lot of boss and worker relationships are designed to be what they are and what they become.

If the fears inherent to the traditional working relationship between a boss and their workers are replaced with a warmer and more positive energy which can introduce a social dynamic into working relationships, would the price of the difference include an organisation’s level of productivity? It probably depends on numerous factors, but, why should healthier relationships between team players result in a reduction of overall productivity?

Being self-employed seems to be a smart move, firstly because you won’t need to dance around for anyone to prevent yourself from being sacked (or tolerate those that do), but to acquire income from a position of self-employment often requires more effort from the self-employed person than from an employed counterpart, though it is not always the case, so, whether you are prepared to make the effort is the enquiry worth making, of yourself.

Self employment tends to provide individuals with opportunities to network and create business chances with other professionals, towards their joint benefits, that would never be extended to them if they had been employed instead, and the cost of these opportunities? The thing that professionals require of one another – yes, professionalism.

For professionalism to profit a self-employed individual so much or so wonderfully, professionalism must be a thing or factors that make them someone who other professionals would like to work with, again and again. It may be that to be professional, an individual must be someone who thinks ahead, far into the future and ahead of their present actions, instead of focusing on just the present.

For any individual to be mindful about the future; their future, the future of the relationships they have with those they network with, the future of the relationships they have with their customers, and the future of their business, towards constructive growths and towards prosperity, that individual has to be a person who is responsible. So, being professional may also mean being responsible, or, being responsible may be a characteristic of one who is professional in their ways.

Professionals will behave differently pending the culture of the working environment they enter, but if professionals can take on positions of leadership but permit other professionals to take on positions of leadership instead of them (when it is appropriate), then each professional within the environment can be excited about the environment, their career, and the possibility of earning a position of leadership.

If a part of being professional includes being responsible, then professionalism includes allowing others to enjoy the working experience that they share with you. This is able to occur where team players are also entitled to the opportunities available to their team captain(s). If you are a professional with great ideas that you feel others always collect the credit for, how would you feel about having an equal opportunity to lead as a team captain yourself?

Studies have found that where working relationships are happier and more productive, that opportunities are increased and that there is more focus on the opportunities, instead of a focus on negative relationships.

An aim of teamwork is to give life to ideas that have been presented and planned by someone; pure work, but with interaction and communications as human beings within a team of professionals, teamwork should also be seen as an opportunity to build new relationships ahead of other opportunities in the future, especially because personalities are attached to the abilities of each professional in the team.

Ultimately, what a team achieves is credited to all its members, and this may be a smart way of encouraging teamwork, co-operation, and smart decision-making, but, where individuals are professional in their teamwork they shall be greatly appreciated by the team’s leader to create good personal credit for themselves, as someone who can be relied on in respect of their skills, and this credit is favourable ahead of new opportunities under the same leadership in future.

While teamwork is an opportunity for leaders to notice and get to know each person in their team, it is also an opportunity for team leaders to be noticed by their team’s members as well.

Working professionally can mean that team members do not share a physical location, and this can mean that some professionals are being offered privacy, security and autonomy too. What’s the problem? Professionals should have these. Communication is important in teamwork, so it is probably more important to focus on the ability to communicate and how communications can be used to monitor progress and potential problems.

If being professional requires responsibility, then being a professional also includes increasing the approachability of one’s self, so that other professionals are encouraged to approach you in future, and this is really about allowing the building of new professional relationships. If people have the desire and the confidence to approach you, physically or digitally, then you may be on the right track, but are you affirming their confidence so that they maintain that confidence to consider approaching you again in future?

How do you feel about the typical boss and worker relationship? How approachable are some of these bosses, or how approachable have some of these bosses been? If you become a team leader, could you improve on how workers typically feel about their bosses, with your team’s members? Could you use your power to improve on the typical working environment?

A person tells you that the relationship between you and them shall be “strictly business”, and before reading this document you would imagine that the term implies a creation of the feelings inherent to the typical boss and worker relations in regular work relationships, but, having read this document you should now be capable of realising that amongst self-employed professionals, that the work involves skills, and personalities, and individuals who are conscious of their future opportunities, to understand that strictly business can also mean great working relationships.

How To Change Your Behaviour

Ever had a need to change your mindset?

Ever had a New Years resolution?

There are some times when we review our lives and want to make some changes.  For many of us the desire for change occurs during December each year.

The thing to be changed is often something that we have been doing consistently throughout a year, so it is arguably a habit of ours.  The challenge we face within ourselves when we seek to change a thing about ourselves that is a habit, or which is rooted in our habits, is to change our mindset first.  If we can change our mindset then we can arrest new thinking, and if we can gain new thinking then we can change our habits to change the very thing that we believe could be done better.

 The mindset that we have is a product of habitual thinking and prolonged thoughts.  For example, what have you been thinking about today and for how long have you been thinking about that?  #DavidWest28 has been thinking about the variety of business opportunities available for all and the different ways in which some successful businesses could improve for increased success.  We have had ideas of being useful in business for some time now, so today’s thoughts, in our case, are rooted somewhere in the past at the point where we began moving in the direction we walk in now.

 Consider also a way of doing things that you have accepted; for how long have you accepted that way of doing things as being the best way?  Truthfully, we stick to doing things in a certain way because we have learnt that way and because we have accepted that way as being a good-enough way of doing those things.  It is the time when we realise that there is a better way of doing something, but that are prevented from adopting that new way, because we are stuck in a habit of doing things in particular ways, that the desire for change is created within us.

 To stay fit and healthy, to spend less money and to save more, to drink less alcohol, to eat a healthier diet, to quit smoking, to become stress free, to learn a new language, to read more, to be more outgoing, and, to stop lying, are all examples of New Year resolutions, all of which orbit a realisation that something could be done in a better way.

 Each of the resolutions above are achievable; as intelligent beings we can stop any behaviour of ours to begin a new behaviour; if the effort required to stop doing a thing is diligently exerted, then the desire for change results as an outcome.

 In the quest for changing a behaviour is a sub-quest to stop an occurring behaviour.  If the root to the behaviour to be stopped is thinking and thoughts that have been held for a long time, then a re-education is required, and a re-education amounts to being the stopping of those thoughts which prompt the unwanted behaviour.  This re-education reprograms the mindset of the individual to make way for the new behaviour which should replace the unwanted behaviour.

 Another way of seeing what re-education does when a change of behaviour is being sought, is that it is a stop of listening – it is the stop of listening to thoughts and thinking and mental communication which prompts the occurrence of the unwanted behaviour.  Re-education also acts as the changing of an individual’s thinking.

 So, the ways and patterns in which we think are basically learned by us, and they can be replaced and forgotten, when this happens we are able to change our behaviour.

 Books, films, music, and verbal communications, are examples of how our minds receive input for processing and forming thoughts, some of which remain with us for a very long time, some of which base our habits and behaviours.  If at any time any one of us requires a change of thinking, we can begin by considering our mind’s various inputs and the most influential of those for us, to potentially identify the sources of inputs that produce our unwanted behaviour.  If it becomes possible to identify that source or those sources, then to change we must stop listening/receiving/accepting those sources and replace them with a source or sources which we can rely on to prompt better or improved or more desirable behaviours from us.
